The BSFZ Seal for BURG Thermoforming
The Certification Office for the Research Allowance (Bescheinigungsstelle Forschungszulage, BSFZ) has reviewed an R&D project by BURG and certified it as eligible. The basis is the German Research Allowance Act (Forschungszulagengesetz). With the seal, BURG demonstrates that it performs development work within certified R&D projects.
What the BSFZ seal certifies
The BSFZ seal is issued exclusively by the Certification Office for the Research Allowance. Experienced researchers review the submitted projects and confirm their eligibility. The seal comes in two variants: red for in-house research and development, orange for fully contracted research. BURG holds the red variant – development takes place in-house.
For you as a customer, this means: when you start a thermoforming project with BURG, you work with a partner whose development work has been reviewed by an independent body. The seal is not a marketing label, but the result of an official assessment.
Three areas of development at BURG
R&D at BURG is not a separate department, but part of the development process. Three areas illustrate this concretely:
Material development. BURG develops materials for defined operating conditions, such as temperature-resistant PET for the range of −40 °C to +75 °C. In selected projects, BURG cooperates with research partners.
Material substitution. Replacing heavy metal and GRP cladding with lightweight plastic components requires material requirement profiles, laboratory testing and validation. Here, BURG combines materials science with manufacturing technology.
Complex geometries. Forming areas up to 3,500 × 2,300 mm and draw depths up to 1,200 mm require simulation and design engineering.
Research allowance for mid-sized development
The German Research Allowance Act has supported investment in research and development since 2020 – across all industries and regardless of company size. The funding rate is 25 percent of eligible expenses, and 35 percent for small and medium-sized enterprises. BURG meets the requirements: a mid-sized thermoforming specialist with 70 employees in Bisingen that invests continuously in development. This development work flows directly into customer projects – in material selection, design and transfer to series production.
